Sinusitis

Sinusitis is the inflammation or infection of the sinus cavities, usually caused by infections, allergies, or structural issues in the nose. It leads to blocked airflow, mucus buildup, and facial discomfort. Sinusitis may be acute (short-term) or chronic (long-lasting).

Symptoms:
  • Facial pain or pressure
  • Nasal congestion and blockage
  • Thick nasal discharge
  • Headache
  • Fever and fatigue
  • Reduced sense of smell
Causes:
  • Viral, bacterial, or fungal infections
  • Allergies (like dust, pollen)
  • Deviated nasal septum or nasal polyps
  • Weak immunity or frequent colds
Treatments
  • Medications: Antibiotics (if bacterial), decongestants, antihistamines, nasal sprays.
  • Home Care: Steam inhalation, warm compresses, hydration.
  • Surgery: Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) for chronic or severe cases to improve drainage and airflow.
Prevention
  • Avoid exposure to allergens and pollution.
  • Stay hydrated and use humidifiers in dry environments.
  • Practice good nasal hygiene with saline sprays.
  • Treat underlying allergies or nasal problems promptly.
