Nasal Polyp

Nasal polyps are soft, painless, noncancerous growths that develop on the lining of the nasal passages or sinuses due to chronic inflammation. They can vary in size and often cause nasal blockage, breathing difficulty, reduced sense of smell, and frequent sinus infections.

Symptoms:
  • Nasal congestion or blockage
  • Runny nose and post-nasal drip
  • Loss or reduced sense of smell and taste
  • Snoring or disturbed sleep
  • Facial pain, pressure, or frequent sinus infections
Causes:
  • Chronic sinus infections
  • Allergies or asthma
  • Immune system response or sensitivity
  • Genetic tendency in some individuals
Treatments
  • Medications: Nasal corticosteroid sprays, antihistamines, and oral medicines to shrink polyps and control inflammation.
  • Surgical Treatment (Polypectomy/FESS): When medications are ineffective, endoscopic sinus surgery is performed to remove polyps and improve breathing.
Prevention
  • Manage allergies and asthma effectively.
  • Use nasal saline rinses to keep nasal passages moist.
  • Avoid irritants like dust, smoke, and strong fumes.
  • Regular ENT check-ups if you have chronic sinus or allergy problems.
